Today is the European Antibiotic Awareness Day #EAAD2017 #WAAD Share your experience.

The European Antibiotic Awareness Day (EAAD) is an annual European Union health initiative that takes place on 18th November to raise awareness about the threat to public health of antibiotic resistance and the importance of responsible antibiotic use. Around the same time WHO promotes the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW, 13-19th of November 2017).

ESCMID and ESGAP, the ESCMID Study Group for Antimicrobial stewardshiP are committed to promote responsible use of antibiotics by stimulating cooperation between countries through education and research activities. More information on all the activities that are organized on #EAAD can be found here. For further information around WAAW, please click here.

As Antimicrobial Stewardship champions most of you have daily tasks aiming at improving use of antibiotics. We invite you to share your special experience and activities during EAAD and/or Antibiotic Awareness Week with all of us by commenting this blog.

    Dear ESGAP members,

    In our hospital (Centro Hospital São João, Porto, Portugal) as main initiative related to European Antibiotic Awareness Day and World Antibiotic Awareness Week, we will held several lectures around the subject of antibiotic resistance and the importance of responsible antibiotic use that are directed to all hospital health workers but are also open to all health professionals that intend to participate. These lectures will take place between the 20th and the 22nd of November because of agenda issues.
    The program is the following:
    – 20 th November at 11:00 am: Antimicrobial Stewardship: Implementation and Benefits (Dilip Nathwani)
    – 21st November at 11:00 am: ECDC Point Prevalence Survey on the Prevalence of Healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial consumption: The local results (Carlos Lima Alves e Nuno Rocha Pereira)
    – 22nd November at 11:00 am: How to improve the microbiologic diagnostic of infection (Melo Cristino)
    – 23rd November at 11:00 am: Antibiotic use at the end of life (António Sarmento, Edna Gonçalves, Cristina Nunes)
