After the publication of the EU Guidelines for prudent use of antimicrobials in veterinarian medicine in 2015 (see here), commissioned by the European Commission, ECDC received a request from DG-SANTE to draft EU Guidelines on prudent use of antimicrobials in human medicine, including generic principles of good practice on the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents in human medical practice in the EU, by October 21, 2016. The tight time-frame reflects the urgent need for the action against antimicrobial resistance now recognized by the EU politicians. These draft guidelines will be a key contribution to support the European Commission in its aim to produce a finalised EU guidelines document.
- A stakeholder meeting with active ESGAP involvement was held on May 25, 2016, in Luxembourg. Please find here the ECDC presentation from the meeting with the most important facts about the guidelines development together with the points raised during discussion.
- In order to receive comments from the scientific community and stakeholders, ECDC is launching a public consultation (see here), which will be open until 5 September 2016
