After the publication of the EU Guidelines for prudent use of antimicrobials in veterinarian medicine in 2015 (see here), commissioned by the European Commission, ECDC received a request from DG-SANTE to draft EU Guidelines on prudent use of antimicrobials in human medicine by October 21, 2016.

The tight time-frame reflects the urgent need for the action against antimicrobial resistance now recognized by the EU politicians. A stakeholder meeting with active ESGAP involvement was held on May 25, 2016, in Luxembourg. Please find the ECDC presentation (see here)  from the meeting with the most important facts about the guidelines development together with the points raised during discussion….   additional comments, prudent use of antimicrobial guidelines, experiences of use of such guidelines or other materials you deem useful are welcome.

As professional society we are well aware of the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and we should not miss the opportunity to move further with the political and public support!
